Pasadena Chalk Walk (Light Bringer Committee)
From 2000-2003, Christopher was referred to the Children’s Center of the Arts where he met the wonderful director, the late Maggie Vier. There he was taught by children how to make art. He was able to be apart of the Absolute Chalk Walk representing the school.
Christopher draws and keeps sketchbooks incessantly. Many of these ideas go behind the paintings much like the skeleton and the blood beneath one's skin.
A book has been created for the first series Demoneater. It went through three different phases, and in the process, this slideshow was generated. The book is its own art piece, and will be offered as a limited edition collector's item.
Christopher appreciates and enjoys the opportunity of doing murals. He has created murals for both public and private commissions. Some of them include: 1999- mural design for the St. Sophia Church in Los Angeles, Ca; 2002- mural competition “Community” La Brea Arts Council; 2004- private commission; 2005- anti-tobacco mural sponsored by the Tobacco Use Prevention Education LAUSD program. In addition, Christopher worked on a series of ideas for a possible mural at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art which would later turn into the painting “Chicken Sauce”. A fun filled picture depicting the apocalypse.
Christopher exhibited a painting in March of 2005, (the Demoneater prototype) for the Alex Grey Chapel of Sacred Mirrors benefit at the Hollywood Athletic Club. It was at this event he met his “one”, Melinda. Soon after this, Christopher began to work on his major series which is the first of three. This first series is currently being made into a book.
Like many others, Christopher was very moved when he watched Guillermo Del Toro’s film. Wanting to thank him and feeling an empathic connection to the Director’s process of keeping a sketchbook he submitted these drawings.
In 2006 Christopher met Dzuy Doan who started the Re: Mission project “a community project connecting the underground art scene to children with cancer.” The work submitted to this very important cause became “The Seed of The Garden.” These are a series of paintings that are part of a larger story, with nine special frames, depicting chosen scenes, given to nine special individuals. The story itself was turned into a book. It was written by Matthew Marchant and designed by Daniel Urbach, founding members of 515 Creations. As for now there are a limited number of books with the hopeful prospect that it will be published and available to those for whom it was intended for…
This is the second part of the ongoing series which is currently underway. At the Re: Mission project group show, which was hosted by Thinkspace Gallery on June 2nd 2007, Christopher met L.Croskey who invited him to participate in the Cannibal Flower group show hosted at Infusion Gallery in downtown Los Angeles on June 30th 2007. The work submitted was “The Smoking Bunny” a painting between the first and second series. A turtle of course will come next…
